Dior’s High Jewelry is Absolutely Exquisite

The aptly named DiorExquis is an ode to the seasons.

If it’s May, it’s high jewelry season — a time when elaborate baubles are shown in equally elaborate settings. For Dior, that meant heading to the South of France to debut their latest collection. Aptly titled DiorExquis Haute Joaillerie collection, it is indeed an exquisite selection of necklaces, rings, and more. Designed by Victoire de Castellane, the pieces evoke enchanting landscapes, blooming bouquets, and an air of fantasy. Drawing from the seasons you’ll see the icy glisten of winter, the vibrant florals of spring, and the sunlit aura of summer. How does that translate? A kaleidoscopic trip as bold layers of colorful stones are intricately sculpted against mineral backdrops framed with diamonds transforming the passage of time into wearable art.

Central to the collection is the opale doublet technique, where opal is layered with onyx or mother-of-pearl to produce mesmerizing hues, reminiscent of sky and water. The result are pieces that transform natural elements into gorgeous displays of color. Further elevating the collection is the plique-à-jour, a hallmark of Dior Joaillerie. This intricate process, similar to crafting miniature stained glass, allows light to pass through a mosaic of lacquered colours, creating an effect that feels vibrant and magical. Given the craftsmanship and attention to detail, it’s no surprise then that the designs appear almost like two-dimensional paintings despite having very three-dimensional gems. But that’s deliberate — they’re little artworks with a sense of childlike whimsy as seen in the pink deer or the rainbow earrings. With everything from brooches to ear cuffs to a tiara, DiorExquis is every bit of the fantasy you’d want from a high jewelry collection.
